GOMA EXHIBITION 「히카리의 지도」

2009년 교통사고로 인한 고차뇌 기능 장애와 기억 상실을 거쳐 사고 이틀 뒤부터 치밀한 점묘화를 그리기 시작한 GOMA세계 굴지의 디쥬리두 연주자이며, 사고 전에는 회화와 거의 인연이 없었다는 GOMA가 그려내는 것은 '의식을 소실한 후에 본 경치'이다.
사고로부터 10년 이상 지난 지금도 의식을 잃은 혼수상태에 빠질 수 있다는 GOMA는 의식이 회복될 때까지 보이는 광경의 기억에 일정한 룰이 존재한다는 것을 발견했다.본전 「히카리의 지도」에서는, GOMA가 의식을 상실하고 나서 회복할 때까지의 경치를 단계별로 구성해, 어느 규칙을 가진 「지도」로서 감상자에게 체험해 준다고 하는 첫 시도에 도전한다.
2018년 NHK ETV의 다큐멘터리 프로그램으로 미국 연구소를 방문한 GOMA는 뇌에 상처를 입으면서 갑자기 특이한 능력이 개화하는 '후천성 서번 증후군'이라고 진단된다.GOMA는 그 이후 의사나 과학자, 같은 증상을 가진 사람들과의 대화를 통해 자신의 창작행위에 일종의 보편성을 발견하게 되었다고 한다.
GOMA가 '히카리'라고 부르는 작품은 모두 현실의 의식에서 멀리 떨어진 곳에서 만난 경치를 그리고 있다.그 경치는 인종과 국경을 넘어 우리 몸의 밑바닥에 잠들어 있는 「히카리」의 모습을 불러일으킬 것이다.

“Map of Light”
In 2009, GOMA began to draw intricate pointillism only two days after a car accident that caused him higher brain dysfunction and amnesia.GOMA, one of the world's leading didgeridoo players who had little connection with painting before the accident, draws the scenery he sees after losing consciousness.
More than a decade has passed since the accident, but GOMA still falls into a coma from time to time.
In 2018, he visited a medical research institute in the United States for an NHK ETV documentary production focusing on the process of his recovery.
There, GOMA was diagnosed with acquired Savant Syndrome, a presentation of (often extraordinary) scholarly skills that can emerge after a non-disabled individual suffers a traumatic brain injury or illness.
Through dialogues with doctors, scientists, and people with similar symptoms, GOMA found a sort of universality in his creative activities and decided to coexist with the intense energy swarming inside his brain rather than fight against it.
After experiencing a coma state many times, GOMA discovered a consistency across his memories of the scenery before becoming conscious.
Light plays an essential role in this process. According to near-death experience researchers, light is also an element reported by many people across different races and gender who had similar experiences to GOMA.
The "Map of Light" exhibition is the first attempt to invite the viewers to relive GOMA's experience through a composition of sceneries, beginning from the loss of consciousness that then moves towards recovery, step by step in a specific order, like following a map.
Here there is GOMA's strong will to "show a trail to return from the 'world of light' where anyone may depart to one day".
All works that GOMA names "Hikari ('Light' in Japanese)" depict scenes he encountered far away from the conscious state existing within the realms of reality.
These sceneries will awaken the figure of "Hikari" that sleeps in the depths of our bodies.

호주 원주민 어보리디널의 전통 악기 ‘디쥬리두’의 연주자 화가.
1998년에 호주에서 개최된 바룬가디쥬리두 컨페티션에서 준우승을 차지해 국내외에서 널리 활동.2009년 교통사고로 고차 뇌 기능 장애의 증상에 의해 활동을 중단.한편 사고 이틀 후부터 치밀한 점묘화를 그리기 시작하게 되어 현재는 호주 BACKWOODS GALLERY(2016) 신주쿠 다카시마야 미술화랑(2018·2019) 등 다수의 개인전을 개최.2012년 본인을 주인공으로 하는 영화 「플래시백 메모리즈 3D」에 출연해, 도쿄 국제 영화제에서 관객상을 수상.2021년 TOKYO 패럴림픽 개회식에서 히카루 트랙의 입장곡을 담당.2022년 무대 ‘숙박 운침’의 음악 감독과 극중 예술을 다룬다.천년의 역사를 가진 고샤 상륙국 총사궁에 아오카 만다라가 수장되었다.

GOMA is a player of the wind instrument didgeridoo,developed by the Indigenous Australian Aborigines,and is a painter.
In 1998, Goma became the first non-indigenous person to win the Northern Land Council prize at the Barunga didgeridoo competition held in Australia Arnhem Land and had been working actively in and out of Japan.
In 2009, Goma was involved in a near-fatal car accident resulting in traumatic cerebral damage and a long recovery process.
Still, he began to draw intricate pointillism just 2 days after the accident, which led to many solo exhibitions such as in BACKWOODS GALLERY (2016) and Shinjuku Takashimaya Art Gallery (2018 / 2019).
In 2012, he appeared in the movie "Flashback Memories 3D, " where he is the main character and won the Audience Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Goma also composed the entrance song for the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
In 2022 he was the music director of a theatre play, "Stitchers," to which he also contributed artworks appearing in the play. Goma's Seika Mandala is stored in Hitachikuni Soushagu Shrine, an ancient shrine with a thousand years of history.
